Year 5 & 6 had workshops with Ben from ‘One Goal’ to help us to become more resilient and deal with adversity. We learnt about the 6 skills needed to be more resilient: Attitude, Behaviour, Courage, Determination, Enthusiasm & Friendship. If we work on all these skills, we will fly high like the confetti and succeed in our challenges!

This week year 5 have been having lots of fun investigating the force of gravity. We also looked at Isaac Newton’s theory, which he developed after watching an apple fall from a tree. We then tested the force of gravity by weighing objects in Newtons with force meters.

In science this week, we have been investigating how the force of gravity tries to pull boats down but the upthrust or buoyancy pushes the boat upwards, keeping it afloat. We tested this by making our own boats from tin foil and we had an exciting competition to see whose boat would hold the most marbles before sinking to the bottom of the tub!

On Monday, Year 5 & Year 6 had lots of fun with ‘One Goal’ learning about the 7 treasures which help us to raise our self esteem!

In year 5 we have been designing and making toys with a CAM mechanism. The children showed amazing perseverance and determination, especially with the fiddly construction and adjustments to ensure the mechanism worked well.

Last week, year 5 planned a prayer service based around our recent RE topic of freedom and responsibilities. The children decided to focus on the theme of forgiveness and saying sorry. The children then led the service beautifully, with different ideas for reflection and response.
