Class 5

Welcome to Year 5 Class website page.

Our Lady's School is a caring family, where, with Jesus in our hearts, we value everyone and encourage them to be the best that they can be.

Class Information

As well as having me as your teacher, we also have Mr Narramore and Miss Naz helping us in class. Mr Hurst will also be teaching you on a Monday afternoon.

Our P.E. day each week is on a Monday. On this day you can come to school in your outdoor P.E. kit (tracksuit, leggings, jumper etc). You will not need your school uniform at all on this day.

Reading books will be changed weekly on a Friday, but please bring your book bags into school everyday in case you need to read with your teacher on any other day too.

Also, please bring your water bottle into school each day. You will then take this home at the end of each day to bring back to school the following day.

Week Beginning 07/09/20

WOW! What an amazing week we have had.

This week the children have throughly enjoyed getting stuck in to our class novel 'Varjak Paw', each chapter grips us with all of the action and we can't wait to hear more!

In our first PSHE lesson we met our new Jigsaw piece - Jigsaw Jez. Our focus was personal goals. We talked about what was important to us and what we wanted to achieve. We wrote our goals on bricks to create a wall that symbolised how we are stronger when we help each other and work together.

We also read 'The Colour Monster' and wrote some great advice in response to the book, which was about different emotions and understanding how we can deal with them.

Your First Day

Hello Year 5,

I hope you’ve all had an amazing summer holiday and are looking forward to the new year just as much as I am.

On Wednesday, I will meet you on the infant playground at 9:00 where we will line up in zone 1 and then walk around to our classroom. We will be lining up in separate zones to keep to the social distancing rules and our class including Mr Narramore and Miss Naz will be in a ‘bubble’; this means that we cannot mix with any other classes. Because of this, our start and finish times, breaks and lunches will be at slightly different times to other classes.

We will begin our first day back by going over some of the new rules that will be in place as well as some getting to know you and well-being activities.

Our break time will be at 10:20 on the junior playground followed by getting you all set up on our new reading programme (Accelerated Reader), maths and spellings. We will be having our lunch in the classroom at 12:15 and then go out to play until 1:00.

Our afternoon will start with our daily prayers followed by arithmetic. We will complete our first piece of handwriting, choose our class novel and write a letter to our future selves by thinking about what we want to achieve this year. Our afternoon break will be at 2:15 on the junior play ground and we will end the day by setting you all up on some new fun reading apps to explore.

At 3:00 we will begin our class novel and catch up on the days news before leading you back around to the infant playground at 3:20 to our zone for home time.

I look forward to seeing you!

Miss Ashcroft
