Vision and Intent

At OLPS we want to provide our children with a relevant and interesting geography curriculum which fosters a sense of fascination, awe and wonder.  We want to inspire and encourage our children to be curious, ask questions, form opinions, and ponder about the world they live in.

We want our children to have a sense of place, to know where they fit into our world at a local, national and worldwide level, and to understand how their actions impact on this world that they are part of.

We want to provide our children with a sound bank of knowledge about the world they live in and through real experiences, broaden and deepen their knowledge and understanding.

We want our children to learn about other people, communities and societies, and enable them to appreciate similarities and differences and promote tolerance.

We want our children to develop and use practical and useful skills to explore the world around them, find things out and communicate effectively. We also want to provide our children with the opportunity to be creative, inquisitive and solve problems.

The geography curriculum is designed to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive, as well as transferable, throughout their time at OLPS and also to their further education and beyond.
