Intent

INTENT

At our school, Design and Technology allows children to be creative, show self-expression and develop a range of practical skills to design innovative products fit for a purpose. We want our children to build on their knowledge of famous designers and their impact on the wider world to inspire them in their process of creativity for now and the future. Through a cross-curricular approach, children draw on their skills and knowledge from other subjects to ensure that their designs meet the needs of the user.

We provide our children with a safe environment to practice trial and error and develop their resilience, allowing them to enquire, explore, observe, handle and experiment with a variety of products, techniques and mechanisms. Children have the opportunity to develop a range of skills and their knowledge and understanding to be able to use a variety of tools, materials and equipment both individually and collaboratively. We encourage them to reflect, evaluate and give feedback to help improve their and others’ designs.
