Our Mission Statement is very special to us. It guides our daily decisions and keeps our faith at the heart of everything we do.
We re- visit our mission statement regularly and this year Mrs Burrows has re- introduced it to us through a sequence of sessions. Our Mission Statement was broken into sections and observable behaviours for us to practice. Children living our Mission Statement were awarded our yellow tie.
Live like Jesus, love like Jesus, putting faith into action
Our Caritas Ambassadors work hard to promote our Mission Statement and the Catholic life of our school. They come from our year 5 and year 6 classes. They are representatives who feel strongly when things happen that are not fair. They really care about other people and are guided by the Catholic Social Teaching Principles. They want to make the world and our local area a better place and they enjoy working in a team. They enjoy thinking of ways to help others and are willing to put love and faith into action. They actively encourage others to share ideas and join in. They have a busy year ahead of them and they all bring their own unique qualities to the role. Please keep them in your prayers.
Autumn 1
Thank you to everyone who has donated to our Harvest Collection for Blackburn Foodbank! We are blown away by the generosity of our families.
Our Ambassadors take pride in knowing that we are supporting a local charity that does amazing work in our communities and that we are living in solidarity with others, which is one of our Catholic Social Teaching Principles.
The work the Caritas Ambassadors have done in school around 'It's Not Fair!' has been recognised by the Diocese of Salford Caritas team!
We are so proud of our children who worked together to speak out against things in our world that are unfair and unjust!
Summer
Our Ambassadors led an assembly during Refugee Week to raise awareness of some of the injustices our brothers and sisters from around the world are going through. We agreed as a school family that "It's Not Fair!". We encouraged everyone in school to speak out against things that are not fair in our world and created this lovely display with contributions from each class.
We also wrote a letter and shared it with our local MP and Caritas at Salford.
Our Caritas Ambassadors were invited, along with the other Catholic Schools in Blackburn and Darwen, to St Albans RC Church in Blackburn for a special Jubilee Year service. We took part in the service, walked a special pilgrimage around the church and met other children who, like our ambassadors, follow in the footsteps of Jesus and put their faith into action. It really was a lovely, special morning!
Spring Term Two
This Half Term the Caritas Ambassadors have been promoting the Catholic Social Teaching principle: Human Dignity - we believe that everyone is special.
We received a visit from Frances who is a CAFOD volunteer. She led a whole school assembly where she shared some of the wonderful work that CAFOD do to support people in need.
This half term we are supporting CAFOD by taking part in The Big Lent Walk. The whole school got involved by walking up to 30 minutes every day for a week! On the last day our families joined us for the final 30 minute walk!
We raised over £1400 for CAFOD. This could be used to buy over 350 chickens for families overseas!!
Spring Term One
This half term we have been thinking about 'our global family'. We have started teaching others about what this means and who our global brothers and sisters are.
We led an assembly to teach others about our global family and the Prayer Leaders helped us by including 'our global family' in one of their Lunchtime Prayer Groups.

Autumn Term Two
Our Ambassadors have been busy selling poppies, bracelets and snap bands for Remembrance Day. The money raised will go to the Royal British Legion: Armed Forces Charity. This links to the Catholic Social Teaching Principal: Solidarity - Showing we Care.
We will be working with the Prayer Leaders on Monday 11th November to lead our school in a Remembrance Assembly.
The Caritas Ambassadors were joined by the Prayer Leaders to lead the whole school in a special remembrance service. The children created a beautiful atmosphere and focal point. The whole school joined in with the 'We Remember Them' litany and stood respectfully for two minutes of silence.
Our Ambassadors were joined by the Prayer Leaders and other volunteers from Year Six to spread joy and happiness this Advent. We visited Asda with our collection bucket and raised £96 for the St Vincent de Paul Society. The children sang beautifully and put smiles on a lot of people's faces. This linked to the Catholic Teaching Principle: Solidarity - Showing we Care.
Our Caritas Ambassadors have been focusing on the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of Distributive Justice. They welcomed Blackburn Foodbank in to talk about the wonderful work being done and to appeal for donations. Our Caritas Ambassadors have organised a non-uniform day in return for a donation for the foodbank if people are able.
The Caritas Ambassadors were focusing on the Catholic Social Teaching Principles of Stewardship and The Common Good this half term and therefore helped to organise a uniform recycling project. Families were asked to donate good quality uniform that could then be ordered and redistributed. Saving our planet and money at the same time!
During Lent we are called to Give, Act and Pray. As part of our word around the CST principle 'Preferential Option for the Poor', the Caritas Ambassadors are supporting the St Joseph's Penny Boxes Appeal. This money will make a real difference to the lives of the local people that Caritas support – people in our local communities facing poverty, disadvantage, homelessness and isolation.
We would like to say thank you so much to everyone who donated to the St Joseph's Penny Box Appeal. As a school family we raised:
£281.38!!
We helped to spread some Christmas cheer by singing in ASDA. We raised a wonderful £99.27 for St Vincent De Paul Society, a charity chosen by us as it is close to our heart, The children sang and behaved beautifully. It was such a lovely special morning!

The Caritas Ambassadors went over to Wigan to a celebration event for 'Hope In The Future'. We sang, prayed, listened to Bishop John and other amazing speakers.
We loved seeing the team from the Mark Ten Mission! Especially joining in with the songs of worship we have been learning in school.
We were so privileged to meet Bishop John Arnold and Ryley asked him for a photograph!
We also made a pledge on how we are going to make changes in our own lives to help our common home, which will then be displayed in St. Peter's Square.
We got the opportunity to work with other pupils from our local area and share what we are going to do to hold leaders and decision makers to account as well as how we can enforce positive change.
