Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools support pupils who may face disadvantage and to improve their educational outcomes. The funding is allocated for children who are currently eligible for Free School Meals, those who have been eligible within the last six years, and children who are Looked After or have previously been Looked After.
The purpose of this funding is to ensure that these pupils receive the support they need to succeed and to help reduce the attainment gap between them and other pupils.
At OLPS, we have high expectations for every child. We believe that every pupil deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their background. Through our Pupil Premium strategy, we provide targeted support and opportunities so that all pupils can achieve their full potential. Our approach is closely linked to our whole-school priorities and is rooted in high-quality teaching and evidence-informed practice.
PLANNING PROVISION
Using a clear understanding of the needs of our pupils, we identify the main barriers that may affect the learning of disadvantaged children. These can include lower starting points in language and communication, challenges around confidence and wellbeing, issues with attendance, and sometimes more complex family circumstances. Our strategy is designed to address these barriers so that pupils are able to engage fully in learning, make progress and are ready for the next stage in their journey.
When planning how Pupil Premium funding is used, we draw on careful assessment of pupils’ needs, the professional knowledge of our staff, and research-informed guidance, including work from organisations such as the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF). The support and interventions we put in place are chosen carefully and are regularly reviewed to ensure they are making a positive difference for our pupils.
HOW WE USE PUPIL PREMIUM FUNDING
At OLPS, Pupil Premium funding is used to provide support and opportunities that have the greatest impact on the progress and success of our disadvantaged pupils.
High‑quality teaching in every classroom, supported by targeted CPD and a strong whole‑school ethos of achievement for all.
Tailored academic interventions, including small‑group work, targeted support and provision to support emotional wellbeing and behaviour.
Improving attendance and punctuality through close monitoring, early intervention, and family support, recognising the strong link between attendance and progress.
Wider opportunities and enrichment, ensuring that all disadvantaged pupils can develop cultural capital, build aspirations, and access the full life of the school—clubs, trips, leadership roles, and more.
OUR COMMITMENT TO DISADVANTAGED PUPILS
At OLPS, we are committed to ensuring that pupils eligible for Pupil Premium benefit fully from the support available to them. Through high-quality teaching, positive relationships and a rich, engaging curriculum, we work to ensure that every child feels valued, supported and able to achieve their potential. We carefully monitor the impact of our provision to ensure that barriers to learning are reduced and that all pupils are given the opportunity to succeed and thrive.

It is very important that parents apply for free school meals (FSM) if they think they are entitled. Children on FSMs receive many benefits and the extra money school receives for these children can help them reach their full potential.
