Our Mission, Vision and Values

At Our Lady’s School, our mission, vision and values are at the heart of everything we do. They underpin our whole approach to supporting children and their families, shaping the culture of our school and guiding us in every decision we make.

We return to them regularly to ensure that our conversations, actions and policies remain rooted in what matters most. They provide a clear and consistent framework that helps us to nurture, support and inspire every member of our school community.

Our mission reflects our commitment to creating a caring, inclusive environment where all are valued.

Our vision reminds us of the impact we strive to have each day.

Our values, alongside British values — are actively lived out in school life. They guide all of us in making positive choices, building strong relationships and growing into thoughtful, responsible individuals.

Together, our mission, vision and values are not just words — they are the foundation of who we are and all that we do.

Our Values

Our aim is for our children to leave us with a strong set of values. Values help children understand right from wrong. Strong values help to shape the mindsets and behaviour of future adults and enable us all to make a positive contribution in society.

We want our children to leave us understanding and having experienced the following values:

Friendship

Children have experienced the value of friendship and knowing how friendships can enrich their life in many ways. Knowing that good friends teach you about yourself and challenge you to be better. Friends encourage you to keep going when times get tough and celebrate your successes with you.

Honesty

Children know that honesty is telling the truth. They know that integrity is part of honesty, it means doing what is right. It means being fair. They know that it means being true to yourself and about yourself.

Kindness

Children understand what kindness is and have experienced the positive mental and physical changes that happen when they carry out good deeds and show kindness to others.

Forgiveness

Children understand that forgiving allows us to mend relationships, develop empathy, overcome disagreement and results in strong emotional health.

Thankfulness

For our children to be thankful for their skills and qualities and to know that people who are grateful tend to spend less time comparing themselves with others and feeling envious. To know that being grateful can improve our self-esteem and support good mental health.

Hope

Children who understand the value of hope will be less likely to lose faith or give up. When obstacles are placed in front of them they won't allow themselves to be discouraged. Hope breeds resilience. Children who have hope are happier and more satisfied with life.

Fairness

Understanding and having experience of fairness will stretch children’s ability to be patient as they will not always get what they want. Fairness lays the foundation for developing empathy and sensitivity towards others.

Resilience

Resilience is important for children's mental health. Children with greater resilience are better able to manage stress, which is a common response to difficult events. Resilience is the ability to bounce back after challenges and tough times.

BRITISH VALUES

At OLPS, our mission — “Our Lady’s School is a caring family where, with Jesus in our hearts, we value everyone and encourage them to be the best that they can be” — is at the centre of everything we do. British Values support and strengthen this mission by helping our children understand how to live well together in our school, our community and the wider world.

We promote the British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance in a way that reflects our Catholic ethos. We teach our children to listen to one another, to make fair choices, to understand right from wrong and to treat everyone with kindness and respect, no matter their background or beliefs.

By living out these values each day, our children learn how to build positive relationships, develop confidence and make good decisions. Together, our mission and British Values help our children grow into happy, respectful and successful individuals who are ready to make a positive difference in the world.
